ACA’s Green Aisle at the Winter Conference once again proved itself as the place to be for companies with a commitment to sustainability who want to demonstrate their products to correctional managers from across the country. Another highly successful Sustainability Committee was held during the recent ACA Winter Conference in Orlando. Committee Chair Tommy Norris divided the committee into five working groups previously identified and based on President Lannette Linthicum’s initial charge to the committee. The subcommittees will be working on the following sustainability issues:

Tom Gilardi along with Butch Maki, CEO of Integrated Veteran’s Services (IVS) exhibited at the recent New York state Jail Administrator’s Conference. They brought along with them the Ecovim 66 Dehydrator to demonstrate how dehydration technology works. Conference participants were impressed with the compact size of the unit and its ability to eliminate up to 90% of the food waste from the jail waste stream.
Steve Tussey, retired Safety Administrator of the Federal Bureau of Prisons has joined GreenPrisons as their top advisor on all things related to chemicals, safety, OSHA compliance and EPA guidelines. As Safety Administrator for the Bureau, Tussey was responsible for implementing many new programs throughout the Bureau’s 122 institutions.

The upcoming Congress of Corrections in St Louis, August 18-22, will once again have a variety of workshops, exhibits and meetings for correctional practitioners interested in sustainability.
