Since our incorporation in 2011 GreenPrisons has relied on the informal advice from a variety of experts in our effort to provide both practitioners and companies the best information possible regarding sustainable applications in corrections. As GreenPrisons is seen by more and more people as the “go to “resource on correctional sustainability we have begun to formalize our advisor cadre.
Paul Sheldon was our first advisor and he has proven to be an invaluable resource on environmental issues. A long time environmentalist Paul became involved in corrections through his work on the Portion Pac Chemical company advisory board. Paul, along with John Rees and Richard Stalder was a charter member of ACA’s Clean and Green committee and the primary author of the ACA Policy Statement on sustainability and the accreditation Standard.
George H. Berghorn, LEED AP BD+C has worked in various aspects of sustainability for the past 16 years. He specializes in sustainability planning and implementation; energy efficient new construction and retrofit; green building rating systems; greening correctional facilities; construction management; environmental remediation; resource policy; grant writing and management; and non-profit management. George’s primary area of focus as a GreenPrison Senior Advisor will be on energy management and solar applications.
James E. (Jim) Coleman has been a correctional trainer, administrator and consultant for more than 30 years. He has managed jails in New Jersey and Tennessee and served a two year appointment at the National Academy of Corrections in Boulder, CO. Immediately prior to his retirement as Director of Shelby County Corrections he initiated the largest sustainable program in Shelby County Corrections history. Jim will serve GreenPrisons as our primary liaison with jails throughout the US.
GreenPrisons will continue to add to our advisory cadre as we identify other content experts. Companies and agencies are encouraged to reach out to any of these advisors for consultant services. For more information on each Advisor please view our new About page.
