Our friends at Insight Garden Program have just had their story told in a new video and it is a fascinating look at the program’s success. With narration from several former inmates who have used the skills they learned in the Insight Garden Program to achieve success, the viewer gets to see how the program makes the connection between gardening on the inside and responsible living once they return to the community
The program, started by Beth Waitkus got its start inside San Quentin prison and now has spread throughout California and other states to the east. It has proven successful in male and female adult prisons and in juvenile facilities. Specific research has been done suggesting that graduates of the program have dramatically improved recidivism rates as opposed to those who have not participated in the program.
