Jails Join The Fight For Sustainability In Corrections

The American Jail Association (AJA) held their 34th Annual Conference & Jail Expo in April in Charlotte, NC, and GreenPrisons was there for the first time. This was also the first conference that AJA has dedicated a special area in the exhibit hall exclusively for companies that provide sustainable products and services to the corrections profession. Not only we were delighted to be an inaugural member in the Eco-Aisle but we sincerely appreciated the warm welcome we received from AJA Executive Director Bob Kasabian and Marketing Director Nicole Gentile. During the conference exhibit hours we had the opportunity to chat with other sustainable companies like Solar America Solutions and Big Hanna In-vessel Composters. Like us, both companies were impressed with the opportunities to meet with real decision makers during the exhibit hours.

AJA has been on the road towards sustainability in corrections supporting renewable and sustainable programs and products for several years. The AJA home page features a great article linked to the National Institute of Corrections (NIC) that explains the need for sustainability in corrections. The article on their website, Green Corrections Challenge, is a great way for professionals in our industry to grasp a basic understanding of not only the challenges we as a profession face but some direction to solutions. A great read for any sustainability enthusiast!
