Invitation for How to Remember Your Dreams
Dear Community, As some of you, I've been working with Planting Justice—a community organization that provides affordable food to local communities while offering full-time, green jobs to formerly incarcerated individuals. In the past 5 years, Planting Justice has built nearly 400 edible gardens, taught food justice curriculum to thousands of Oakland youth, and helped 20 formerly incarcerated men transition from San Quentin State Prison into full-time, salaried positions. We recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to dramatically expand the scale of our work. We are trying to raise $100,000 to purchase two acres of vacant land in Sobrante Park, an East Oakland neighborhood with high unemployment and limited access to grocery stores and fresh food. We will transform this abandoned lot into a permaculture plant nursery (with over 1100 rare varieties of certified organic tree crops), a recirculating aquaponics farm (that will grow over 100,00 pounds of organic produce each year while conserving water) and urban farmer training center to provide paid training and job opportunities to local youth and formerly incarcerated people. We've already raised over $62,000, and have 15 days to raise the rest of the $100,000. It would mean the world to me if you considered donating to Planting Justice’s campaign. This is an incredible opportunity to support a local organization that is increasing access to affordable food and expanding job opportunities for formerly incarcerated people. Please donate here! If you can't donate, I would still really appreciate you sharing the kickstarter with your community! Thanks for your support, Paul
